Doodles and babysteps

Just to let you all know: I am not doing nothing!
I have been doing some mass painting on my Skaven Stormvermin unit - all metals at once...pfff, that's a tedious job! I have also put on the base color for the skin on the first 5 models.

Besides that, I have also been doing some practing. I have been very interestted in the blog from the Brush Brothers, and decided to practice some of their work: I always wanted to fiddle with Space Wolves a bit, battle damage, and I wanted to try out their way of painting faces. Although it is in no way meant to be high standard, or something I would send in at a painting contest ;), I am glad with the experience, and I have learned a lot by doing so. Have a look at their blog sometime and do some practising yourself! Really! I helps!

Lage Landen Painting Competition

This year GW Netherlands en Belgium decided to host a painting competition, much alike to the Golden Daemon in the UK, although the format is somewhat different. With much joy and pride I can now claim to be one of the winners in that competition!

The format: All GW Stores in the NEtherlands and Belgium first hoster a preliminary, where you could enter your model in one of 11 categories. The 1st to 3rd places of all categories would be entered in the finals held in Amsterdam.
Some friends and me decided to enter the preliminaries in Antwerpen, where I brought home 4 first places, for:

- WH Single (Ikit Claw)
- WH Regiment (Mordheim Shadow Warriors)
- WH Monster (Chaos Daemon Prince)
- Large Model (Screaming Bell)

In all other categories I entered I got second or third, so all in all: I scored a finals place with all models. However, decided to enter the finals only with the models that scored first place. My mates persuaded me to at least also enter the Dark Elf Dreadlord I entered in Open Category (and got 2nd place).

On April 10th we went to Amsterdam. To make a long story short: I brought home a total of THREE first places, two second places, AND OVERALL WINNER :)

This really is a big step in my rise on the painting ladder I guess, and it sure as hell makes me even more determined to enter the Golden Daemons pretty soon now - as long as time permits!

Skaven Blog - part 12: Ratling Gun

Here's a real quick update. I wanted to create a plastic Ratling Gun, as Island of Blood gave me a WFT and a Poison Wind Morar in plastic too. And then, when the second wave of mini's for Sakven were released, they gave new weapon teams, but still no new Ratling Gun. So: I had to make my own. Really simple actually:

I took the Warp Fire Thrower from Island of Blood. First I cut off the nozzle of the flamethrower, and mounted a Space Marine Assault Cannon on. To intergrate it more in the model, I created a bit of a handle with greenstuff. Next, I didn't want the bak model to look the same as the WFT, so some (slight) alterations were in place. I cut off the top dome, to create an open-topped 'barrel'. I wanted it to be filled with Warpstone rocks, that would internally be grinded to pellets, transported to the gun through the hose, and then...well...you get the picture. Some cork snippets did the trick really.

Off to painting I guess!
