Mini Exchange: Isabella von Carstein, part III

I found some spare time to work on Isabella.

I added the cobweb to the dress, and frankly, I think it's not that bad. Thanks to Malebolgia (GWHobby.net) for that idea. I still wanna do a cool tribal on the cloak that Adam Halon showed me. But that's for later.
For now: enjoy.

And yes, those eyes SUCK! It's the sculpt...always the sculpt...

Mini Exchange: Isabella von Carstein, part II

With every stroke of my brush, I feel my disposition towards the old sculpt of Isabella shift from 'UGG! This is horrendous!' to 'I think I can actually make this work...!'

Now that I have added some more color on her, I can clearly see where my choices will lead to. I was afraid at first that the off-white 'wedding style' color of the dress would prove too pale for the entire model, but now I see that it really brings out her eerie beauty. Sort of.

I see that my idea for the sleeves (actually gloves) work, but somehow it just is not right just yet. I can't lay my finger on it though, so if you know...don't hesitate to tell me!

I still need to do so much: the gold, the silver cp, the metal dagger, heer make-up and eyes, and I am certain to do some cobweb pattern on the dress. But I don't want to make it too obvious, so I might use grey colors only.

I am also pondering if and what I should put on the cloak - embroidery, a sigil, runes...? Still not sure. Like I am not sure of what to do with the base. But that'll come soon enough

Mini Exchange: Isabella von Carstein

Once in a while I particiate in a mini-exchange with some friend of mine. This time I got handed a really old, OLD model from Games Workshop: Isabella von Carstein.

Alright, to be complete, the blister also held Manfred von Carstein, but I decided to do just one of the two (sorry Emiel), and ofcourse picked the female.
Now I find this model a real challenge, because it really is an old model. It certainly is not my preferred style of sculpts, with all these great and wonderful models coming out nowadays. But hey, I like challenges. So I want to do some serious business on this model.

I am still pondering though, on color theme, embroidery (although an idea I received to do a cobweb pattern really sounds cool), and display base (Balcony? Graveyard?...?), so it might take some time for me to actually finish this model.

For now though, one thing I COULD do was paint the skin. As vampires are always pale, I wanted to reflect this, but not refer to the blueish tones. Rather, I wanted to have her some bluster, a semblance of life left in her. So I added some subtle warm colors in there. Her lips are purplish, but I might need to go back on those.

As I was rummaging through the CMON gallery for inspiration, I noticed that she actualy wears gloves. Really big, rubbery gloves. YUCK! Thats not lady-like! So, I am trying to do something different, and hope to make it work by using painting techniques and optical illusions. But I guess you'll have to wait and see.

I have only done the hair with a few coats of black washes, just to see where all the detail is. I am still wondering if I should do black hair (with the classic white stripes), or do something altogether different...?
